Welcome, visitors from far and near!
What a beautiful summer is unfolding on the Kenai Peninsula. First come the lupine, then the peonies, and along with the fireweed comes summer music with the Kenai Peninsula Orchestra! Over 70 musicians are busily preparing a variety of musical experiences for music lovers of all ages. The theme for this year’s gala concerts is “Music of the Masters”. The gala will feature works by master compsers Dvorak, Vivaldi, Shostakovich and Berlioz. As we anticipate the thrill of recreating and experiencing the live performance of these signature works, we remember that all masters begin as students, and students begin as listeners. Our Summer Concert Series will feature masters, virtuosos, teachers, as well as students, each on their own musical journeys, joining together to create memorable playing and listening experiences for all, and hoping to inspire others along the path of personal musicianship.
Our Children’s Library concerts will delight all who are young at heart while putting children within feet and inches of high quality, live classical music, some perhaps for the first time. Students themselves will display their progress and triumphs in a performance by the Soldotna Youth Chamber Ensemble. Special guests, Woodwind Trio of the Navy Winds Northwest, will demonstrate the mastery gained by full time dedication to music.
This summer’s Chamber Concerts will showcase first-class Alaskan talent. Wind performances by distinguished clarinetist and UAA Professor of Music Mark Wolbers, joined by exquistite flutist Tomoka Raften, and a multi-percussion solo by KPO’s own master percussionist Scott Bartlett, will be accompanied by brilliant local pianist Maria Allison.
Our Summer Concert Series will culminate in the beloved grand Gala Concerts, with an orchestra of over 70 players under the baton of conductor Tammy Vollom-Matturro. We welcome you from far and near, into our libraries, churches, eateries, and auditoriums, as we celebrate the joy and the journey of music together in the most beautiful place on earth.
