Greetings! Now that it feels like summer, it is time to let you know more about KPO’s summer plans.
Take a Stand With the Orchestra – Our first goal of 20 music stands has been met! Thank you so much for participating in KPO’s “Take a Stand” Fundraiser. We have ordered all 20 stands. They may not be ready by our first full rehearsal on June 14, but they will be ready to go for our full festival rehearsals in July. Trailer and Percussion Equipment – KPO is the proud new owner of a 14’ travel trailer! Our travel trailer will be able to store all of our equipment like the stands and podium that are not affected by cold weather, and when we need our drum kit and timpani, it will carry them. If you might be willing to occasionally help pull the trailer for our rehearsals, I am creating a list of volunteers. Please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
We have been able to obtain nearly all the percussion equipment on our request list, thanks to the generous support of the Rasmuson Foundation and to your wonderful support. We are already dreaming of new instruments for the trailer to carry. We hope to continue to expand KPO’s percussion section to include bells, xylophone, and even chimes. Attention Homer Area Residents: Job Opportunity – KPO is looking for a person who is passionate about the orchestra, has good organization and communication skills, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively to fill the position of Homer Area Coordinator. This position is year-round, part time, but monthly hours vary based on the orchestra schedule (5 hours per month to 50 hours in July/August). Stipend will be established upon hire date. NoonTime Tunes Musicians Needed – This summer, our NoonTime Tunes will expand beyond the 2 weeks of the festival – Tuesday NoonTunes (TNT!) will take place throughout July. We still have a few openings for musicians. These musicians provide about an hour of music between noon and 1:00 PM at various venues. We welcome other musical genres than classical, so if you are a musician interested in participating in a NoonTunes event, please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Summer Music Festival Plans – This year’s Summer Music Festival plans are well underway. The Madison String Quartet, our guest string clinicians, will return to bring their Latin flair to our MSQ & Friends chamber concert series, and maybe a surprise or two. KPO’s Gala concerts will offer three treats – the Latin dances of Ginastera’s Estancia, Rodrigo’s Concerto de Aranjuez featuring UAA professor of guitar, Armin Abdihodzic, and Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition. During our performances of Pictures, we will show a multimedia presentation of art from local artists inspired by Mussorgsky’s work and the art of his friend, Vicktor Hartmann. 2015 T-shirts Available – Preorders of our Summer Music Festival souvenir t-shirts are now available on our website at http://kpoalaska.com/products-page/ . Preordering will be available until June 21 in order for the shirts to arrive by KPO’s July 12 rehearsal. As always, a selection of shirts will be available during the festival, but preordering will ensure that you get the color, size and style of your choice.
