We don’t want to say this too loudly, but it seems that spring has sprung early here in Alaska! KPO has been quite busy already this year, and we have a lot of exciting things coming up that we want to tell you about!
Have you looked at our KPO website lately? Visit www.kpoalaska.com and check out performance and rehearsal info and much more! Soon we will be adding a new feature – a listing of Peninsula music instructors. If you are a music teacher on the Kenai Peninsula and wish to be listed, look here for an information form. You can also contact Linda Reinhart at 235-8650 or email@example.com.
Don’t forget that when you apply for your Alaska Permanent Fund Dividend you can support the Kenai Peninsula Orchestra through Pick.Click.Give. The PFD Double Your Dividend Sweepstakes is open to all P.C.G. donations of at least $25, so it’s never been easier to LovAlaska, and maybe double your dividend!
Thanks to the hard work and generosity of our members and audience (and the generous support of the Rasmuson Foundation), we have been able to acquire nearly all of the items on our percussion wish list! However, we still have need of one big part of this project – an enclosed trailer for transporting our equipment.
Another branch of the percussion/equipment project is “Take a Stand for KPO”. For your donation of $50 you can purchase a music stand for the orchestra and you can have your name, or the name of your favorite organization (or grandchild?) embroidered on the stand case. We are already over halfway to our goal of 20, but we could use more!
KPO’s next event will be An Evening at the Pops to be performed on April 10th in Kenai and April 11th in Homer. In the meantime, many of our musicians are participating in local musicals not directly connected with KPO – Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat with Kenai Performers and Pirates of Penzance with Homer High. After these 3 projects, KPO musicians will dive directly into our Summer Music Festival Preparations!
We are planning on featuring Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition with a slide show of local artist’s work during the Summer Music Festival. If you would like to have one or more of your pieces shown at this event, the details may be found at http://kpoalaska.com/artists-call-for-work-inspired-by-modest-mussorgsky/.
We have big plans for this season! Thank you to those of you who have chosen to support us through Crescendo Club membership – you will receive an admission discount to our major events. Additionally, youth 18 & under will receive free admission to our concert events!
If you would like to assist KPO in any of these projects, please visit us on the web at www.kpoalaska.org for more information. You may make donations though the “Donate” tab, find our address to mail checks or contact us for more information.
We hope you have enjoyed this mild winter, and our condolences to the skiers and snowmobilers out there.
